Despite Davis' belief that the Pope was on her side, Pope Francis' private audience with Grassi may suggest otherwise. In fact, Mike Huckabee called it a turning point in the fight against "judicial tyranny".
The Vatican also revealed that the Pope met with a gay couple and their friends while in the US when denouncing Davis's views as also being those of the Popes. The Times reported that Vigano, who arranged it, met Davis' lawyer, Mathew D. Staver, in April at the rally against same-sex marriage cited above. Grassi said, the Pope emailed him in the weeks leading up to his US visit and said he would "love to give me a hug".
"He has never been judgemental", Grassi said.
However, a statement from Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said Francis did not enter into the details of Davis' situation. According to CNN news, the Pope Fransis, 50 years ago, his literature and psychology teacher in Argentina Yayo Grassi &s invited to the Vatican Embassy with his family by calling personally.
Fransis pope to the United States while the aftershocks of his historic visit to discuss, especially surprised that the two met in Washington, the Pope's name evokes strong reactions.
Grassi then introduces the pope one-by-one to three women and his partner, Bagus.
Headlines have been circling the past few days after Robert Moynihan, editor of the publication Inside the Vatican, broke the news about the meeting September 29.
"Just knowing the pope is on track with what we're doing, and agreeing, you know, kind of validates everything", she told ABC News.
The Vatican on Friday distanced Francis from Davis, saying his encounter with her was by no means an endorsement of her cause. This meeting changes the narrative of Davis' encounter with the pope. "It's the way he thinks and how he is", said Mr. Grassi.
While Lombardi declined to take questions on the incident, his assistant, Father Tom Rosica, a Canadian priest, laid the blame on the Vatican embassy in Washington, saying it had underestimated the impact of Davis's presence at the reception.
"While I am glad to hear the story of the Yayo Grassi meeting, I still wish that Pope Francis would be more forthcoming about his personal experiences and relationships with LGBT people", said DeBernardo.
The Vatican initially confirmed the meeting but offered no comment.
Lombardi added, "Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the pope's characteristic kindness and availability".
Grassi said that he asked for the meeting in Washington because the friends he brought along have been through hard times and wanted to receive of a blessing from the pontiff.
