Pop culture's ability to trace the intricacies of our social fabric shouldn't be undervalued, with TV in its various guises - broadcast, cable or streaming - proving more up to the job than its big-screen brother, Oscar.
The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Mr. Robot and The Americans emerged as favorites among Emmy voters' in nominations for the 68th Primetime awards announced Thursday.
As for the rumors that Anderson and Ross have been romancing each other off-screen too, Anderson played coy when asked if they might make their red carpet debut at the awards show.

Reporters and industry insiders are gathering for the 8:30 a.m. PDT announcement of nominees for the 68th annual Primetime Emmy Awards at the TV academy's newly opened Saban Media Center in the North Hollywood district of Los Angeles.
The show will be produced by Don Mischer and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
Aziz Ansari received a lead comedy acting bid for his series "Master of None", a first for an Indian-American actor, and the show received a best comedy series nomination.
The actor adds, "I was just a 9-year-old kid growing up in Compton, California, with a dream and this is the dream that I had". It's within reach, you know? If they don't get them, that will be taken as a bad sign for the TV Academy.
The hit show, based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire", was named outstanding drama series at last year's Emmy Awards.
At least two of last year's nominees for outstanding comedy series won't repeat - NBC's "Parks and Recreation" which ended its run, and "Louie", which FX announced in August would return for a sixth season, but would go on an extended hiatus until star and producer Louis C.K.is ready to continue working on it.
"Game of Thrones" and "Mr. Robot" will compete with "Better Call Saul", "Homeland", "House of Cards", "The Americans" and "Downton Abbey", the last a nod for its farewell season.
