Pokemon Go is not only about searching for Pokemon but also PokeStops.
Everyone's goal in Pokemon GO, aside from catching all Pokemon, is to become the leader of a dominating Pokemon Gym. Once you find a PokeStop, tap on the marker to see a real picture of the location (the picture likely came from a player of Ingress). Gyms are the multi-layered towers on the map, where players go to battle each other with the aim of taking over the tower.
Sometimes the Global Positioning System is a little slow to update.
The Drum team pitched in (far too many of us are playing Pokemon Go) to share our favourite ways to school the game. But does this long held dream of a game actually work? At first we had no luck, but by the end of the walk we'd already snagged a few Sandshrews, some Paras, a Nidorino and, yes, half a dozen more Zubats. The concepts behind Pokemon Go may not be ideal, but they work well together and balance out. Let me explain. In the normal Pokemon games you really only need to catch one Pokemon of any given species in order to train it to maximum level.
One more lure to go!
The huge difference with Pokemon GO is instead of sitting in your living room on your Nintendo getting yelled at by your parents to go outdoors and play, you are forced to go out and use the Global Positioning System location services on your smartphone and you literally have to go out in your city and find these Pokemon. At first I dismissed it, but there were more and more people doing the app, so I downloaded the app to my iPhone...
The Pokemon you catch can then be powered up in terms of CP and HP, making them meaner and more powerful so that you can take on gyms dotted around your area. Just throw the ball by pressing the button on the Pokemon GO Plus. This adds a needed skill to capturing, as well as tests the trainer's timing since the Pokemon being captured can bat the Pokeball away when its attack circle shrinks.
This week, I wrote an article all about the effects the popular game is having on people. Camera issues like these led me to turn off this feature, which, thankfully, was an option.
Meanwhile Yelp opened up a filter letting Pokemon Go users pick their takeaway based on their proximity to Pokestops.
While the game has gotten people out of the house and exploring areas all around Western New York with their loved ones, there are some dangers associated with it.
So if you see people gathered near the clock in front of the library, looking at their phones, don't be alarmed; they're probably playing Pokemon. Are you one of the five people left in the world who hasn't played it? Another problem is that this game doesn't run in the background on your smartphone, meaning it must be up at all times. Leave the device spinning around for a while to increase your walking distance and hatch your eggs. The further into the Gym the Pokemon GO player gets, the more prestige level is taken off.
That said, Pokemon Go gets 3.5 GiN Gems out of 5, and should they ever fix their server issues, I'll bump it up to a 4 out of 5.
