Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of Donald Trump, delivered a highly anticipated speech on Thursday night, the final evening of the Republican National Convention.
When it came time to nominate Trump, 15 delegates pledged to Cruz after the March primary still voted for the Texas senator.
The "addendum" Krauthammer was referring to was Cruz's Thursday morning event with the Texas delegates where he said that he is "not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father".
Members of the crowd in the Cleveland arena react badly to Senator Ted Cruz's failure to endorse Donald Trump.
"I am doing what millions of Americans are doing I am watching, I am listening", Cruz said. "The election isn't today", he added.
"If you are invited to speak at the convention, though, you have to endorse him", said Kinzinger, who is so reluctant to embrace Trump as his party's nominee that he has been sitting on the fence for months.
He said his pledge to support the Republican nominee "was not a blanket commitment that if you go and slander and attack Heidi that I'm going to nonetheless come like a servile puppy dog and say thank you very much for maligning my wife and maligning my father".
Pence hit all the points you'd expect from a Republican vice-presidential nominee, bashing presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for her handling of foreign policy and criticizing President Barack Obama on the economy.
Someone yelled "this is politics!"
Republican Sen. Thom Tillis said in an email response to questions about Cruz: "The Republican convention should not be used as a platform for any Republican leader to put their personal political ambitions ahead of our shared goal of uniting our party to defeat Hillary Clinton and move America in new, more prosperous direction".
"While Melania said, well, basically the same: "[My parents] taught me to show the values and morals in my daily life. But some in the IL delegation were taken aback by the booing and the general negativity surrounding Cruz's speech.
It was interesting to see Newt Gingrich try to say that Cruz's remarks were open to interpretation given that he said people could vote their conscience. "Vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution".
Trump received the same advance notice, but took his seat in the convention hall anyway and watched Cruz commit what many stunned delegates in the hall called "treason".
"That's who he is and it's why he is the most disliked person in either party on Capitol Hill", he said.
US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has refused to back Donald Trump. "I think we all should get behind our nominee Donald J. Trump". When the speech ended, there was an ugly crowd behind us.... "But as I just expressed to you, when it's a binary decision, we have a great responsibility to make sure that we keep this republican intact".
