Rather than continue the rivalry between him and Jose Mourinho, Guardiola wants a fresh start but no one is sure if Jose Mourinho thinks the same way.
Following a friendly against Borussia Dortmund during a short and relatively straightforward stay in Shanghai, United have come to Beijing to take on Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in what looked set to be a mouth-watering friendly.
The former Chelsea manager also dismissed any suggestions of having problem shaking hands with Guardiola when they both meet before kick off.
For the past 10 days, their deputy head groundsman has been in Beijing working - at City's expense - with the ground staff at the Birds Nest Stadium.
When asked if he will shake Guardiola's hand ahead of kick off, Mourinho told a press conference broadcasted by MUTV: "Of course, I will shake his hand, why wouldn't I?"
"It was too small, too full and too hot", said a spokeswoman for Manchester United's media department.
"We want to keep calm, play safe, go home and keep the preparation going next week", Mourinho continued.
"The pitch is very bad and the condition of my players is more important than results", he said. Why not? Why should he not shake my hand? "The most important thing is that the players are not going to be injured but we also know that it's so important to come here to know the people and to play a good two games against incredible teams like United and (Borussia) Dortmund".
"We worked together in Barcelona for three years, we were opponents in other clubs but we are just professionals and we have a normal relationship". It's a problem for me if there are bad conditions for my players to train and bad conditions for my players to play. He can play only in 18 matches for Manchester United at last season English Premier League.
"We haven't see the pitch, but the information we have is there could be a lot of rain in the last day, so it's not in good condition".
"The ones in the first plane were lucky because we landed safely and were in the hotel to have dinner. The players, we want to win everything and hopefully we can do it", Mourinho was quoted as saying by goal.com.
