We got a little more clarification on McClain's issues today.
"Even we don't know all the details", vice-president Stephen Jones said Tuesday. "We just don't know".
McClain originally joined the Cowboys after retiring from the league with the Baltimore Ravens back in 2013, at the age of 23, following a number of arrests.
McClain is listed at 255 pounds, so if Cole's report is accurate, McClain is approaching 300 pounds now.
McClain now is facing a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, but according to a report by Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, his offseason activities may be enough to have ended his playing days for good.
Rolando McClain is suspended, hasn't shown up to training camp and is reportedly abusing 'purple drank'. Today the team made a move to sign James Morris, a linebacker who last played with NFC East rival NY. Team owner Jerry Jones said he was "disappointed" with McClain but wouldn't go as far as to say he would release the linebacker. He signed his third consecutive one-year deal with Dallas in March.
The talk includes speculation that McClain may not want to play football any longer. McClain, who missed the first four games last season because of a suspension, is in Stage 3 of the substance abuse program.
There even was his one season of exile out of the National Football League in 2013 before eventually attempting a comeback with the Cowboys in 2014. He reported to the mandatory minicamp in June but did not practice because he was not in condition. When he has his business in order, he can be a difference-maker.
