Husker basketball will open B1G race on the road

The Gophers open their season Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif., against San Diego at 6 p.m., then play 11th-ranked Stanford on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Nebraska and Minnesota each had three players on the preseason team. Purdue's road games will come against Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio State. Purdue travels to East Lansing, Michigan, for the first of two meetings with Michigan State on January 24, before heading to Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 29 to face the Huskers. Penn State and Wisconsin had two apiece. UW will open the Maui Invitational vs. Tennessee and play either OR or Georgetown next, with a possible matchup with North Carolina later in the three-day event.

Postseason play begins March 8-12 with the 2017 Big Ten Tournament in Washington, D.C., at the Verizon Center.

The Boilermakers open Big Ten play with home games in five of their first seven league games, beginning December 28, when Iowa comes to visit.

Reigning NCAA champion Nebraska was projected to win the league, while 2015 Big Ten champion Minnesota was picked to finish second.

University of Wisconsin seniors Lauren Carlini and Haleigh Nelson were named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Wisconsin is now enjoying a streak of 18 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, which is tied for the fifth-longest streak in tournament history. The Huskers return five starters from last season.
