"Of course, you know, I'm much older than him, so if they can give me (the title shot) first, that would be great".
If he has to, Maia says he'll wait for the victor of a potential matchup between current champ Tyron Woodley and Thompson.
There is no doubt that Maia more than solidified his shot at the 170-pound title after blitzing right through Carlos Condit, a man who hadn't been finished in over a decade.
The only person who might stand in Maia's way of earning the title shot is Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, who has won seven bouts in a row, including victories over former champion Johny Hendricks and former title contender Rory MacDonald in back-to-back fights.
Mr. Oliveira started the final round by going for a takedown but as has been the case throughout the fight the former UFC champion would extricate himself from it. Mr. Pettis would get hold of Mr. Oliveira's neck and put the guillotine, making the latter tap out moments later and the referee stopping the contest at the 1:49 mark of the third round. Now that he's found a new home, Pettis can look ahead to new challenges, but also some old ones. On top of that, this was his fastest loss, tapping out early in round one from a rear-naked choke, prompting the UFC fighter to question his career, once more.
Condit's comeback fight wasn't a successful one as he ended up suffering a first-round submission defeat to his Brazilian foe.
Who She Should Fight Next: Winner of Joanne Calderwood and Jessica Andrade. "I've been at this for a really long time", said Condit.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Demian Maia has fought 30 times in mixed martial arts events.
As far as the title goes, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson is likely next for new champ Tyron Woodley, and Maia said after the fight that he's going to wait to take on the victor.
Jeremy Kennedy, back, and and Alessandro Ricci, both of Canada, fight during a lightweight bout at a UFC Fight Night event in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. Eight months on "NBK" returned to possibly the most hard fight available. I don't know if that's going to be the swan song for me. "Unfortunately for him, he's coming down to fight me".
"I think you'll see a mix of cities we've been to and cities we've not been to", said Wright. "I knew it was close, but I thought I took rounds two and three for sure, especially with my takedowns and my strikes that landed". "I'll probably talk to the people around me, talk to my wife, and probably make the decision after some discussion".
The win improved Mr. Pettis to 19-5 in MMA, and 1-0 in the 145-lb weight division.
VanZant, who last fought on December 10, 2015, when she lost by submission in the fifth round, was able to land a kick to the head of Rawlings, driving her opponent to the ground. But I don't know what's in the cards.
