Maker recalls fresh-cut vegetables from stores in Southeast

Country Fresh, Inc., just recalled 30,000 of its precut packaged vegetables due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The recalled products have "BEST IF USED BY" dates between August 7 and August 19 and were sold clear plastic containers or Styrofoam trays overwrapped with clear plastic film.

Shoppers in the Southeast should be on the lookout because the products were distributed across several southern states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Infection in pregnant women can lead to premature delivery, stillbirth, infection in babies and even miscarriage.

Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

To date, no illnesses have been confirmed by public health authorities. The supply of infected products has been stopped and they are now being recalled. The source of the outbreak was 11 frozen vegetable products from CRF Frozen Foods of Pasco that have been recalled on April 23 of this year.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
