The Seattle Reign have announced that goalkeeper Hope Solo will not return to the club this season, just days after her U.S. Soccer contract was terminated.
Unfortunately for Solo, as a result of her extremely inconsiderate comments regarding her worldwide opponents, the U.S. goalkeeper was not only given a six month suspension from U.S. Women's soccer, but the USWNT terminated her contract with the national team! According to ESPN's Mark Fainaru-Wada, Solo's half-sister, Teresa Obert, said the national team star struck her and her teenage son in June 2014.
Before a match last weekend against the Portland Thorns, the Reign announced Solo was granted an indefinite personal leave.
"Coming to terms with the fact I was sacked from the U.S. Women's National Team after 17 years of service has been devastating". "After careful consideration, I have chose to end my season with the Seattle Reign, an organization I love playing for...."
Firebrand US footballer Hope Solo has been fired from the national team, and true to form the controversial goalie has left the building with a few choice words.
"But Solo, who called the Swedes "a bunch of cowards" for playing a defensive game before beating the U.S.in a penalty-kick shootout", also set a record for off-the-field controversy and chaos. It followed the USWNT on its journey to the Olympics as well as the fight for the women's team to earn pay equal to the men's team. Brazilian fans booed her mercilessly and shouted "Zika!" every time she touched the ball.
"Seventeen f***ing years and its over!" She said that she's not there mentally as the reason for not playing again this season. Earlier this year, an appeals court in Washington state rejected Solo's request to avoid trial.
Hope Solo is consoled by her husband, Jerramy Stevens.
