Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has entered the NFL's concussion protocol after taking a shot to the head on a 2-point conversion run during Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. Cam Newton was taken out of the game for a slight concussion after a helmet to helmet hit in the end zone.
Newton took a goal-line hit on a two-point conversion attempt late in the Panthers' 48-33 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He grabbed 12 passes from Matt Ryan for exactly 300 yards (including a 75-yard touchdown play of beauty), and when you add that to his other splendid moments against the Panthers, it's enough to make you say Antonio Brown, who?
Siemian left the game with two minutes remaining in the first half with what the defending Super Bowl champions described as an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder. The Panthers attempted to fill it with right tackle Mike Remmers, who was repeatedly beat in pass protection and allowed several hits on Newton.
"I said how are you doing?"
In the NFC South showdown between the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons, it was actually the least desirable outcome, but the Falcons won to improve to 3-1, dropping the Carolina Panthers to 1-3.
And now there's a chance they could be without Cam Newton for a while.
Rivera last spoke to Newton after the game at the Georgia Dome and said Newton told him, "I'm fine". The Panthers visit the New Orleans Saints in another division matchup in Week 6 before a bye week.
Derek Anderson took Newton's place.
Rivera obviously would prefer to have his quarterback healthy and out of harm's way, but he understands the physical nature of Newton's game.
"If you guys know Cam like we know Cam, he's going to come back with resilience and the attitude of a victor", linebacker Luke Kuechly said.
Brees overcome two interceptions to win in his return to San Diego, where he played his first five National Football League seasons before being allowed to leave as a free agent.
He was flagged for a taunting penalty in the first quarter and finished 14 of 25 for 165 yards and a touchdown with a few overthrows. He completed passes to nine other receivers Sunday.
Jimmy Graham, questionable with back spasms earlier in the week, had six catches for 113 yards, including an impressive 17-yard one-handed grab in the opening quarter.
"I'd love it", Jones said, and why not?
There's plenty of blame to go around though. He finished with 300 receiving yards on 12 catches.
Panthers rookie cornerback James Bradberry was overwhelmed in his tough assignment to cover Jones. Against Carolina's normally solid defense, Ryan rolled left and right, and he moved up and back in the pocket, and he even threatened to do flips, jumping jacks, anything it took to deliver one of his ideal throws to Jones and to nine other receivers. The Panthers' tried to run a couple of "safety" plays, but the Falcons' defense looked like they knew ever play. ". There's a lot of communication that goes on there, but that is the challenge that goes on as a coach". Linebacker Luke Kuechly missed three games last season after suffering a concussion in the Panthers' season opener. That is how you have to do your job.
