Chicago Cubs' Anthony Rizzo (44) celebrates with Dexter Fowler after Game 2 of baseball's National League Division Series against the San Francisco Giants, Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, in Chicago. After what every baseball fan thought would be a hard fought renewed rivalry series, Toronto wasted no time in eliminating the Rangers in 1-2-3 fashion.
Fans 22News spoke with in Fenway, however, were confident that Buchholz will keep the Red Sox alive in Monday night's game.
A win tonight would not only send the Indians to the ALCS, but would also give the team home-field advantage in the series after the Toronto Blue Jays swept the Texas Rangers Sunday night. The rainout pushes that back one day - at least - and could extend David Ortiz's career for another day as well. Cleveland secured a tight 5-4 Game 1 victory over the Sox and followed that up with a Corey Kluber (1-0, 0.00 ERA) gem to jump out to a commanding 2-0 series lead.
With the rainout, the Red Sox could come back to 22-game victor Rick Porcello in Game 4 on the usual four days of rest.
Chicago took Game 1 on Friday 1-0 thanks to eight scoreless from Jon Lester and an eighth-inning homer by Javier Baez. Stats that not as promising, however, are those of the Red Sox' starting pitcher tonight. When asked on Monday if there could be a situation where left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez starts over Price, Farrell did not rule it out.
Rodriguez said he hadn't been told of the team's plans.
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons says right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit, who tore his left calf running in from the bullpen during a bench-clearing fracas with the Yankees on September 26, is "making progress" but isn't close to a return. I can't wait to get back out there and throw the ball like I'm capable of. Toronto leads 2-0 in the best-of-five matchup.
Last year, the Blue Jays banned selling beer cans in the upper deck at their stadium during the AL Championship Series. The Jays walked off in their wild card game, too. Those were all regular-season games.
