The Detroit News reported that the Lions were told the phantom flag on the Eagles that was picked up, for "No. 98" being ineligble downfield on an Eagles pass play, happened because an official forgot which team had the ball and mistook Detroit defensive end Devin Taylor for an offensive lineman downfield. "We knew they were going to run the ball there, so I was extra aggressive", Slay said.
"I just control what I can control". By NFL rule, if the ball is touching a player who is out of bounds, then the ball is technically out of bounds, even if it is "technically" still on the field.
"We looked around, everybody in the huddle looked real confident", Wentz said.
A'Shawn Robinson collected his first career sack. The Eagles drove down for a field goal as the first half expired. "But right then I just made a better play".
We don't often get to appreciate a cornerbacks performance when watching games live unless they're giving up plays. The second half they tried to do the same stuff, we just played it better across the board.
For Jim Caldwell and the Lions, the victory stopped a three-game losing streak that threatened to derail the entire season.
Stafford had another stellar game, with three first-half touchdowns. It was an unfortunate outcome for the Eagles, but one they could have avoided by simply holding onto the football at a crucial point of the game. "We just kind of hurt ourselves".
Matthew Stafford set up the game-winning kick by converting a third-and-4 from the Eagles 39 with a perfectly placed pass on a crossing route to Golden Tate, who drew an unnecessary roughness penalty on Malcolm Jenkins.
Aside from the late interception, Wentz was impressive, going 25 of 33 for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Caleb Sturgis kicked three field goals for the Eagles (3-1).
"We could've folded the tents and gave up, but the sideline was very energetic", Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson said.
The Lions scored on each of their three drives in the first half, and held a 21-10 lead at the half.
Vikings 31, Texans 13: Adam Thielen caught a touchdown pass to cap Minnesota's opening drive and finished with a career-high 127 yards, and the Vikings defense flustered the Texans in Minneapolis. It was recovered by the Eagles on Detroits 16. All Philadelphia needed to do was to get into field goal range. Matt Prater's 29-yard field goal with 1:28 to play put Detroit ahead, but the Eagles still had plenty of time and only needed a field goal of their own.
After the defense forced the Lions to punt after just three plays and three yards, the Eagles got the ball back with 4:59 to go and all of the momentum.
Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who led the Lions from 2009 to 2013, seemed to make some adjustments that worked until Stafford made his clutch pass to Tate.
Thanks primarily to Wentz, the Eagles converted 45 percent of their third downs, making five of 11.
The Lions converted seven of 14 fourth-down tries past year, and 10 of 20 under Caldwell in 2014.
"It's a dead ball; out of bounds", Pederson said. Mariota bounced back with a strong game after totaling three interceptions and no TD passes in losses the past two weeks.
Here, Stafford led the Lions to three straight touchdowns on their first three possessions to start on the game against a good Eagles' defense.
Stafford found Marvin Jones in the back of the end zone to make it 21-7 with 3:08 left in the half.
