Running back Chris Evans led the onslaught for the Wolverines with 11 carries for 153 yards. The Wolverines are holding opponents to just 12.4 points per game and only 248 yards of offense per game, which is good for fifth-best in the country. Khalid Hill added two yards and a touchdown.
Wilton Speight #3 of the Michigan Wolverines warms up prior to the game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at High Point Solutions Stadium on October 8, 2016 in Piscataway, New Jersey.
It became the second-largest margin of victory for the program since 1920, following an 85-point edge against Chicago in 1939.
Week 6 of the college football season is officially in the books, save for a couple of games on Sunday.
And, Harbaugh said, there's more: Peppers' second touchdown run of the night was created to be a pass from the do-it-all sophomore.
Karan Higdon added touchdown runs of 15 and 44 yards, Bobby Henderson tallied from 13 and Isaac capped the scoring with a 34-yarder for his second of the game. By the time it was all over, MI carried the ball 56 times for 481 yards and nine touchdowns.
With a huge advantage on the ground, MI did not need to pass much. Weber's average of 123.8 yards a game is tops among freshman rushers, and his 7.3 yards a carry ranks third among players with at least 65 attempts.
In the ten quarters since senior receiver Janarion Grant went down with a season-ending injury against Iowa, Rutgers has amassed 13 completions for 130 yards, with eight completions and 92 yards coming from the second half against Iowa alone.
In 2014, Rutgers won three games and lost five.
MI put together one of the most complete games of the season Saturday and blew out a Rutgers team that was already bad before it lost its best player. One of those other teams?
"I'm not concerned about the score", first-year Rutgers coach Chris Ash said.
From there, the rout was on.
Michael Cintron punted 16 times on Saturday night. By the time the first half was over, Rutgers finished the half with only one total yard as well as zero first downs.
Neither sparked the offense, and Ash said Laviano will remain the starter against IL (1-4, 0-2 Big Ten) on Saturday. Those runs came from the "Wildcat" formation with Peppers taking the snap at quarterback.
After another three-and-out, the offense was back on the field. Karan Higdon, Khalid Hill, Ty Isaac and Jabrill Peppers each scored two touchdowns as seven different players scored for MI. Hill took it in for six on the next play. MI led 43-0 at halftime, holding Rutgers to a single yard of offense in the first half. Each of the backups directed a TD drive early in the third quarter for a 57-0 edge. That was pretty evident when Harbaugh called a timeout with 34 seconds left in the first half - while winning 43-0 - trying (it seemed) to get the ball in Peppers' hands once more before the break (Rutgers kicked it out of bounds and MI took a knee).
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Saquan Barkley ran for 202 yards, Trace McSorley threw a pair of touchdown passes and Penn State beat Maryland 38-14 on Saturday.
