As fans watch in a light rain, a truck drives through the pits trying to dry the racetrack before a NASCAR Xfinity series auto race, Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Del.
There was no talk of points, according to Austin Dillon, until there were 10 laps remaining in Sunday's Citizen Soldier 400 at Dover International Speedway. Tony Stewart finished 13th, and the three-time NASCAR champion was knocked out of contention in the first elimination race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
Xfinity: Daniel Suarez cruised into the second round of the Chase in NASCAR's second-tier series with a win at Dover, the first leg of a doubleheader with the Sprint Cup race.
Kyle Busch is always the first name to consider in Xfinity Series races.
Kyle Busch's superior speed on the outside line helped at times, but as the race progressed he could not keep pace with Truex and had to settle for second ahead of the consistently strong Chase Elliott.
"I look forward to it a lot", Truex said of the second round. "I cut the right front tire down and got in the wall and still had good speed in the race vehicle after that but it just didn't work out".
Dillon, the lone Richard Childress Racing driver in the Chase, was the fortunate one standing in the 12th spot.
Green flag for Sunday's race. It felt like it had power and then I don't know about 40 laps before it finally blew up, it just started vibrating real bad.
"I've always wanted to go but we never had the chance because of the schedules", said Earnhardt, who attended Mooresville schools before going to military school.
The track bar broke on Kevin Harvick's auto while he was running third, necessitating enough time in the garage to put Harvick more than 40 laps down. "No, but I feel they're really good tracks for us".
With about 10 laps left at Dover International Speedway, he finally heard over the radio that he was locked in the next round of the Chase. McMurray, participating in his second Chase in a row, moved into the final spot after his teammate Larson had problems. "Once we won in Charlotte, it was like super relieving because not only is that a confidence builder for you, but I think in all the people that are around you". "I'm proud of my team and proud of our guys and all the hard work they've put in". We were able to make it to the next round.
"I didn't know you had your own entourage following you around", said Sadler, laughing. I just like to support the community and enjoy the same old stuff, just be normal for a minute.
The second round of the Chase opens at Charlotte and Logano is the defending race victor.
