It's a safe bet the Tigers will once again be the ACC's highest-ranked team, if for no other reason than Louisville's loss at Houston certainly will cost the Cardinals their No. 3 ranking.
Deshaun Watson and Wayne Gallman each scored two touchdowns and Clemson clinched a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game in two weeks.
"There are a couple of teams in the ACC are elite, nationally ranked teams and we are not at that level now", said Clawson, whose team is already bowl eligible for the first time since 2011.
Clemson will finish the regular season next week with a home game against SC, while Wake Forest will host Boston College.
"We're still driving the auto", Clemson senior center Jay Guillermo said. We look forward to competing in the championship game.
The Tigers tied for the ACC's Atlantic Division title with Louisville but owned the tiebreaker based on defeating the Cardinals on October 1. No reason to drop Clemson for a 22-point victory on the road. After rushing for 1,514 yards and 13 touchdowns in 14 games last season, Gallman has managed 831 yards through 11 games this time around.
"Our offensive line did what they needed to do", Gallman said. "A lot of it was that they played well, and a lot of it is we just didn't execute".
Clemson used a fourth-down conversion in the fourth quarter to lead to Gallman's 1-yard touchdown run with 10:50 left.
The series has taken a distinct turn in Clemson's favor since - the Tigers are unbeaten in seven games against Wake under Swinney, winning by average margin of 38-13.
This time it was Watson finding a well-covered Mike Williams in the corner of the end zone from 15 yards out, ending a nine-play, 68-yard drive that put the Tigers up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Veteran starting quarterback John Wolford was unable to play for Wake Forest Saturday with a shoulder injury, thus giving way to redshirt freshman Kyle Kearns' first career start.
Clemson harassed the young quarterback all night long, as Kearns was 7-for-18 for 126 yards Saturday.
"We were very limited in what we were able to do", Clawson said.
Wake played well out of halftime, and its field goal following a 7-play, 82-yard gave the Deacs the only points of the quarter. "Against a good defense, it's hard to be limited". They started the second quarter with a touchdown just over 2 minutes in after Deshaun Watson scampered for a 2-yard run to give the Tigers a 28-0 lead. The deacons would add a 42-yard field goal from Mike Weaver for their first score of the game after a muffed punt by the Tigers set them up in handsome field position. Clemson's second-quarter sack pushed the defense's string to 41 consecutive games with a sack.
