Wilson was clutch on the final drive and eventually hit Doug Baldwin for his third touchdown of the game (I had Baldwin on the bench on one of my fantasy teams; still won, though).
In the best game of the season, the New England Patriots lost to the Seattle Seahawks 31-24 on Sunday Night Football at Gillette Stadium.
"Because they could tie it we could make it a two-score attempt for them and we could play it differently down the stretch, " Carroll said.
Seattle's latest climb may be underway.
It certainly won't make up for the Super Bowl loss two seasons back, but the Seahawks' goal-line stand lifted them to a 31-24 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday night.
Quarterback Russell Wilson was brilliant, guiding the Seahawks to scores on seven of their nine meaningful possessions.
The stunning decision to trade Pro-Bowl linebacker Jamie Collins to Cleveland for a draft pick on October 31 cost the Patriots in Sunday's 31-24 loss to visiting Seattle. They're still in command of the AFC East but are on the road the next two weeks against the 49ers and Jets.
"That's the same play we always go to", Baldwin said.
Trading blows back and forth the entire contest, fans were treated to an explosion of offense from two teams that have largely been lead by their defenses this season. I can draw just one conclusion: They still have a lot of the Jets in them and when they get together, the vibes must be bad. We were prepared for it. "They had seven scoring drives over the course of the game, and they were moving the ball pretty good, so you'd hate to score with a lot of time left and give them a chance".
It also was a game of big plays and big swings, perhaps none more so than Julian Edelman's spectacular over-the-shoulder 33-yard catch on a third-and 25 to end the third quarter. You got to be able to withstand those, especially when you play a big, physical defense like Seattle's.
Once again, Belichick just thinks he's so much smarter than everybody else.
"Gronk's a great competitor, man", said Chancellor, who returned from a four-game absence caused by a groin injury. "But I'll be ready to go next week".
"It didn't hurt to run the ball that time, either, and for them to use a timeout", he said. "That's what I was called upon to do this week, and I did it".
Or, in the end, the power of Seattle's interior defense on the short runs by Blount or Brady, and Kam Chancellor's tight coverage on Gronkowski on the final play.
He finished with only three catches for 56 yards, and that lone catch near the end of the game was his only second half reception.
"I didn't see it", Brady said in his post-game press conference.
There are no longer any National Football League teams that haven't thrown an interception this season. In fact, Seattle held the ball for more than 8 minutes in both the second and the fourth quarter, which was very telling.
Other nominees include Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers completed 37 of 46 passes for 408 yards and 3 touchdowns for a 125.4 passer rating against the Dallas Cowboys, and Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans completed 19 of 26 passes for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns for a 149.8 passer rating in a 47-25 win over the Green Bay Packers. But, on Sunday, the Seahawks made New England work for everything it got.
Carroll was a Jets assistant for four seasons and their head coach for one season.
