They are No. 7 in the College Football Playoff rankings, with a legitimate chance to crack the final four. Purdue has 38 pass plays of 20 or more yards this season, and Blough is responsible for 36.
Now comes the hard part: Figuring out if Wisconsin belongs in college football's Final Four. Alex Hornibrook is the leading passer with 1,125 yards and seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.
"I thnk that is something that is so special about this team, because it literally takes everyone to win these games", Edwards said.
The Badgers will need to go through border rival Minnesota next week, but playing at home and with a 12-game winning streak over the Gophers, things are looking good for UW to return to Indianapolis. The bad news is the Badgers are a two-loss team.
Chryst's unique quarterback rotation would continue with senior Bart Houston seeing significant time on Saturday. Wisconsin linebacker T.J. Watt intercepted a pass after blocking it. We had little reason to believe that David Blough could do it today and sure enough, Purdue got trounced. Using a play-action fake, Houston threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to fullback Alec Ingold and Shaw burst up the middle on a 33-yard touchdown run that couldn't have been blocked any better.
Bradrick Shaw added a 7-yard TD run with 3:03 left in the half. "What they've given to this program, given to me, during this tough time has been unmatched". We know the types of games we've been in all year, and we anticipate the next one being the same. "With those two interceptions, it was one big joke with one batted ball and then another batted ball".
Corey Clement rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown for Wisconsin.
Yes, Wisconsin got off to a slow start, punting on its first two possessions and allowing a Purdue field goal to stand for a 3-0 lead for a significant chunk of time. But 18 players and probably most, if not all, of the coaching staff said goodbye to Ross-Ade Stadium in front of a scant crowd. Purdue interim coach Gerad Parker was hoping his audition might lead to the dropping of the interim tag.
All three of the picks came in that resurgent second quarter, with the first blowing open the gates for a 35-point frame. Expect them to stay solid against a team that doesn't really belong on the same field as them at this point. "That's always good. Think one way, get 'em going the other". This is Clement's sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season (and fifth in the last six games). The defense has allowed only five touchdowns in five road games this season.
The Badgers know they still must earn it.
The light work load is definitely working for Houston, who's also gotten Wisconsin on the board with touchdown passes in two of his last five outings. The Boilers (3-7, 1-6 Big Ten) watched a 10-0 lead slip away and turn into a 14-10 halftime deficit and then a 45-17 rout.
The Boilermakers, bolstered by the return of tackle Jake Replogle (2½ tackles for loss, eight total tackles), clogged the middle of the line and shut down UW's inside running game. Houston, who ran the triple option in high school but was known strictly as a pocket passer at Wisconsin, gained a yard around left end on his very first play. A victory against the Gophers would also earn the Badgers a 13th-consecutive year of keeping the Paul Bunyan Axe in the Big Ten's historic rivalry.
All that remains for Purdue is next week's Old Oaken Bucket game at IN and the hiring of a new coach, likely shortly thereafter.
