The St. Louis Blues beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 in the 2017 NHL Winter Classic at Busch Stadium on Monday.
"That was so early and it was kind of a (bad) bounce", said Steen, who picked up his 300th National Hockey League assist and 500th National Hockey League point on Berglund's goal.
With all of those weather-related eventualities covered, the game itself promises to be an interesting one. We were a little taken aback by it I think in the first five minutes of the game.
"We had guys in the right spot".
"Defensively, he's been moving the puck quickly".
"He has played well", coach Joel Quenneville said.
Tarasenko's two goals came after he had been denied on two great scoring chances earlier in the period, being stopped on a breakaway by Chicago goalie Corey Crawford and then hitting the post when the Blues were on a power play, meaning he could have scored four goals in the period.
Vladimir Tarasenko-whose pair of third-period goals drove the city into a frenzy-noted that despite the size of the crowd, it was actually harder than usual to feel their energy during play because of the distance from the stands to the ice at Busch.
Personally, like Laz, I am very much in favor of this decision. I think a lot of people in here smell that the Cup is close.
Nelly performed during the Winter Classic fan fest and even did a media availability where he talked about his love of the Blues' outdoor game jerseys and 3-on-3 overtime.
"At the end they kept coming faster it seemed like", Crawford said. But, after watching the Winter Classic Alumni Game and yesterday's game, I found that I enjoyed both.
The Blackhawks were no strangers to roughing the elements.
Just 1:53 later Tarasenko would net his second of the game with a chip past Crawford's glove. The unique nature of the set-up at Busch gave Hitchcock and his players an unforgettable perspective. You were looking at 25-30-second shifts and that fits us too. Regardless, a great play.
It was 46 degrees when play began before a sellout crowd of 46,556, the sixth largest for a Winter Classic.
"As I told the players, once the puck's dropped, it's 85 x 200 and it's a glassed-in hockey rink; but you can't help but look around", Hitchcock said.
