Corrections Officers Held Hostage In Smyrna

The emergency situation was reported late Wednesday morning.

Investigators said the inmates took control of a building that houses up to 150 people. "Department of Correction will release additional information as it is appropriate". All prisons statewide are on lockdown, per DOC policy.

State Rep. J.J. Johnson is among the lawmakers who have been briefed on the situation.

Corrections officers are being held hostage at a DE prison, authorities said Wednesday.

Guards have been taken hostage at a prison in DE which houses minimum, medium and maximum security inmates.

It's not known how many guards have are being held.

The email says about two dozen inmates had been moved to a higher security area earlier that day and refused to eat dinner.

Geoff Klopp, the president of the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware, told the Delaware State News that three to five correctional officers have been taken hostage.

Inmates have taken four prison guards and a counselor hostage at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Delaware.

All Delaware prisons are on lockdown, NBC 10 Philadelphia said.

Gravell said the situation is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
