Not even 48 hours after being removed from Madison Square Garden for shoving security officers, former New York Knicks forward Charles Oakley has been banned from ever returning to his former team's home court - not even if he purchases a ticket to attend.
Dolan said that Oakley was being abusive from the time he stepped into the Garden, and it "accelerated" down to Oakley's seat and to the incident with security guards.
Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan says Charles Oakley has been banned from the arena, though not necessarily forever.
MSG management insist that Oakley arrived to the game in an agitated state, and began cursing at Dolan, with whom he has a stormy relationship over Oakley's belief that Dolan has disrespected him for years.
"There are dozens of security staff, employees and NYPD that witnessed Oakley's abusive behavior".
Oakley was led out in handcuffs and charged with three misdemeanors before being released later that evening. Next thing I know I was asked to leave the building.
"My thing is, I would love to be able to go to the Garden, but I don't want to keep going to the Garden if all this is going to keep happening", Oakley said.
"That can't be something he meant to have happen", Dolan said of the incident.
"He should have never made it to his seats, and that's on us", Dolan said.
"I'm gonna cheer 'em on and hope they can get back on track and make a run and make the playoffs".
The manager says Oakley was that Michael Jordan was on the phone and wanted to speak to him - but Oakey refused, "I don't want to speak to Mike, he's my brother, this has nothing to do with him, I want to talk to Dolan".
The incident involving Oakley played out on live television Wednesday night during the Knicks' 119-115 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers that aired nationally on ESPN. "I'm like, I've been here 4 1/2 minutes, I'm a Knicks fan, I played here for 10 1/2 years, I love the Knicks, I love NY in my heart, I wish them all the luck and success on the basketball court and I want to know why I'm not welcome in the Garden". I've said this before. he has a problem.
