Like most of the gaming world, yesterday evening saw me join countless others in racing onto the Public Test Region in order to get my hands on the newly revealed hero: Orisa. Other Overwatch heroes recently introduced as new are actually from older teams, but Efi created Orisa from scratch, and this is something that we have not seen before in other characters.
Here how Overwatch was born, in our summary of Jeff Kaplan's GDC talk.
Osira's ultimate is called Supercharger.
"With the approval of her understanding and open-minded parents, Efi spent the bulk of her grant money to acquire one of the decommissioned OR15 bots".
As you can imagine, Orisa is a tank hero who defends her teammates from the thick of the frontline. Orisa's primary weapon is the Fusion Driver, which functions like a projectile-based machine gun, with some of the best range of any of Overwatch's tanks.
Osira also has a Protective Barrier that she can place down on the ground in a stationary position to protect herself and her allies from enemy attacks.
Fortify - Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and can not be affected by action-impairing effects. As well, she has a "Halt!" attack that acts like Zarya's graviton surge, which pulls enemies into a central location. Her ultimate ability is a supercharger that helps power the damage that allies deal in her line of sight.
Combined with fellow buff based heroes like Lucio and Ana, Orisa looks like the ideal hero to break deadlocks and force your team's position forward. Orisa is the sixth Tank hero and was designed specifically, as the developer update above states, to provide players with a viable alternative to Reinhardt to shake up both the casual and the competitive/tournament metagame. When she uses this ability, her character model gains a golden sheen for five seconds and she takes significantly less damage while it's active.
"Orisa's kit is strong to the point where she trivializes many existing abilities other tanks offer". "We look forward to hearing your feedback and hope you enjoy Orisa as much as we have". How long will players wait for the hero to be revealed? From what we can tell she can absorb any incoming effect outside of damage when it's active, so she could brush off a Roadhog hook, for instance.
