Of course, this is not the first iPhone case that runs Android.
Eye attaches to the back of any iPhone 6 or 7 model - regular-sized and Plus - and adds what amounts to an Android phone (in both power and thickness) to Apple's flagship phone. A latest Kickstarter project has managed to achieve the dream of a smartphone enthusiast, to run Android on an iPhone, and that too without the hassle of complex jailbreaking.
If you are such a person, I definitely recommend you invest in the Eye, a Kickstarter project that turns your iPhone into an Android phone. It's got two SIM card slots, is expandable by microSD cards, has a 3.5mm headphone jack and IR blaster, and contains its own separate battery and NFC chip. It comes with an always-on display and houses a 2800mAh battery that increases the battery life of the unit altogether.
The Android device baked into the case runs Android 7.1 Nougat. It's available for the iPhone 6 and later, and will allegedly be available for the new wave of iPhones coming in 2017 within a month of their release. It connects to the iPhone via the Lightning port for charging and file transfer, so while these are technically two independent phones, you can use them in tandem for some features.
The ESTI Eye case notably doesn't have its own mic and speakers and therefore relies on the iPhone for these hardware components.
Those who can not decide between Apple's iOS - the mobile operating system that powers the company's iPhone - and Google's open-source Android mobile operating system might finally have a solution. Last year, accessory maker Jijia launched the Mesuit case for iPhone. And not just these two there are many other who have attempted the same. And while Esti Inc. has yet to comment on what kind of internal specs the Eye will have, given the $189 price point (which is the cheaper version without cellular connectivity), it's hard to imagine that Eye will offer a superpowerful Android experience.
Eye is available to back on Kickstarter for an early-bird price of $95 (without 4G) or $129 (with 4G). So it better be really good!
