NJ Transit service to and from NY has been suspended since a Washington-bound Acela train derailed and sideswiped an arriving Montclair-Boonton line train around 9 a.m.

The Acela Express train was moving at a slow speed out of Penn Station when it derailed, and its rear remained on the platform, Amtrak said. That train was pulling into Penn Station at the time, and it fully reached the platform where riders were able to exit. No injuries were reported when an Amtrak Acela Express train derailed and clipped a NJ Transit commuter train. That's when NJ TRANSIT said one of its trains coming into Penn from Montclair was hit by the Amtrak train.

That will let NJ Transit and Amtrak have sole use of four of nine Penn Station tracks that LIRR uses in the evening. All rail service is now suspended into and out of Penn Station. In the meantime, Midtown Direct trains were being diverted to Hoboken. No serious injuries were reported.

The picture shows the window in the train being blown out, but passenger Jordan Geary writes that "Thankfully everyone is okay".

According to CBS News, this involved two trains.

A New Jersey Transit spokeswoman said service was suspended into the station.

Amtrak officials were not immediately available for comment.
