Egypt to Turn Lights off to Mark Earth Hour

The Taipei 101 skyscraper, retailer Carrefour and numerous hotels in Taiwan joined the world in observing Earth Hour by turning off their lights from 8:30 p.m.to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
The initiative was first introduced in Australia by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to protest human activity driven carbon dioxide emissions, resulting in global warming.
When asked if Earth Hour connects with Carrboro's values, Zucchino said that if there's one place in the whole state he would predict an event like this to occur, it would be Chapel Hill and Carrboro. "When individuals unite, the power of the collective can create a massive impact as we have seen with Earth Hour observations over the past decade", he added.
Earth Hour is a global event, organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature.
WWF-Pakistan will hold special events to commemorate Earth Hour at the National Assembly here, Frere Hall in Karachi and Emporium Mall in Lahore.
Each year, businesses and landmarks set aside an hour to switch off non-essential lights and observe Earth Hour to advocate action for climate change, Dawn online reported.
"2017 marks the tenth anniversary of Earth Hour which started as a symbolic event in Sydney in 2007".
The WWF said Earth Hour is not a one-hour commitment to conservation but rather a symbol of something bigger.
The Empire State Building in New York has observed Earth Hour since 2008.
Meanwhile, Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani said Pakistan will play its due role to boost the national climate change resilience, protect lives and livelihoods of the people.
"But absolutely, if there were ways that we could be more environmentally [friendly], we are always on the lookout for that", Morrison said. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns across 172 countries worldwide. It may be necessary to do some research when the lights go on.
