The Tesla Model X is also now the world's quickest SUV, with a confirmed 3.1 seconds to 100 km from a standstill. The company plans to send the instructional videos along with the paperwork ahead of time to speed up the process. Tesla has stated the the Model 3 will begin deliveries at the end of 2017, but others have speculated it until 2018.
However, a performance package does make one wonder how some of those with pre-orders for the standard Model 3 might feel.
He refers to a tweet by Musk on January 19 that says the company's target is a 90% reduction with Tesla autopilot hardware version 2 as the software matures. The model can hit a 60mph in under 6 seconds and features supercharging capabilities. Apparently, the contract was only for the Model 3.
Elon Musk tweeted a teaser video of a freshly manufactured Tesla Model 3, the mass-market electric sedan due for sale in limited numbers later this year. Autoblog explains that the "release candidate version" of the Model 3 is virtually indicative of the final version of the vehicle that will go into production.
The Model 3 will start to appear in customers' driveways later this year. Even for vehicles that do not activate Autopilot, Tesla still gathers sensor data for fleet-learning purposes and includes many safety features like automatic emergency braking (AEB) as standard.
Musk also shares that the maximum battery pack size for the Model 3 will be 75 kWh. Right now, it is still unclear how many Model 3s could be built with 3,000 km "shielded aluminum cable". He calls the prototypes "release candidates" because the vehicles that are now being worked on could nearly pass for production-level cars, as these are basically being built on actual production tooling. The Model 3 is svelte and stylish but is has smallish trunk lid. Ford ruined the party when it obtained a trademark on the Model E nomenclature, but all good Tesla fans know the Model 3 was really supposed to be called the Model E. As per a report from auto and Driver, the SUV is equipped with a one of a kind double-hinged "Falcon Wing" door that opens sideways and up.
