With the upcoming action film, Elgort is given a new image that puts him slightly away from the genre he is known for, a skilled driver who suffered an accident as a kid that caused him to utilize headphones and music.
Sony announced the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday.
The release date for "Baby Driver" has been moved up to June 28. Instead, Sony will release the film - which stars Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Lily James (Cinderella), Emmy victor Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Oscar winners Jamie Foxx (Ray) and Kevin Spacey (American Beauty) - on June 28th, right in the thick of the July 4th holiday bonanza. Sony's session started with the opening six-minute scene from Baby Driver, followed by Wright, Hamm and Elgort taking the stage to talk up exhibitors. "We rehearsed to the music (in the film)", said Wright. "I designed Baby Driver to be seen large and loud", said Wright winking to exhibs that his latest auto movie driven by music, wasn't intended for cell phones, but big screens.
"There's not a lot of acting in the backseat where I'm sitting sweating and terrified", said Hamm, "Everything was shot and it was real and it's all up there".
Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.
According to The Verge, "Baby Driver" hoists up once again the already wonderful career of Ansel Elgort, the lead of the teen drama flick "The Fault in Our Stars", as well as being in the "Divergent" series.
Baby Driver is set to hit theaters June 28.
