Despite a tiresome critical response, the 8th instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise, "The fate of the furious" is smashing all the box-office records.
Directed by F. Gary Gary, the movie has grossed a HUGE amount of money for their opening weekend, out-pacing every other movie out on the market now and going SO big, that no other new release wanted to debut this weekend against it!
That included $190 million in China - the biggest ever debut for any film in the world's second largest economy - bringing its total global opening to $532 million and breaking the previous record of $529 million held by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (2015).
In China, where the franchise has a huge fan base, "The Fate" fetched the highest ever three-day opening weekend, grossing 1.3 billion yuan ($190 million), nearly double the size of North America opening, according to Universal.
It was a sharp drop from the $147.2 million debut by "Furious 7" in 2015 but strong performance overseas meant it was able to smash the "Jurassic World" record worldwide opening of $316.7, with a massive $432.3 million from 63 global markets. It\u0027s domestic total now stands at $107.3 million, with a whopping $500 million in additional earnings, overseas.
The film also drove past records in China, a growing movie market.
Vin and Rock "met privately several times" to work out the issues that arose during the filming of The Fate of the Furious, sources tell TMZ.
Its nearest competitor was The Boss Baby, which took a further $15.5m (£12.4m) to land second place. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures,"While we rejoice over ₹ 100 cr, ₹ 200 cr, ₹ 300 cr, #Furious8 collects $ 188.85 million in its long wknd in China".
"Beauty and the Beast" crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide this weekend. "The Fate of the Furious is satisfying audiences on many different levels". It stars Vin Diesel who plays Dom, Dwayne Johnson who plays Hobbs, and Jason Statham who plays Deckard.
The studio has not released an official production budget, but it is reported to be in the pricey $250 million range. Fast & Furious 7 made $397.7 million in its opening weekend.
