The 32-year-old Portugal global is coming into the Confederations Cup in form and on a high having led Real Madrid to a La Liga and Champions League double last season, but Mexico won't have a specific man-marker for Ronaldo.
"He is motivated, just like me", said the 21-year-old Silva at a news conference in Kazan ahead of Portugal's opening Confederations Cup match against Mexico on Sunday. Matches will be played in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi and Kazan. There have been near-misses in the World Cup - Luiz Felipe Scolari's Portugal reached the semifinals in 2006 - but if the biggest trophy of them all is to elude Ronaldo, the Confederations Cup will go some way to filling the hole.
The 2017 Confederations Cup kicks off on Saturday, with hosts Russian Federation taking on New Zealand.
Three-time World Cup victor and football legend Pele believes Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world. "He is taking this competition very seriously and is fully focused on training and on the match against Mexico".
Ronaldo has 11 goals in five games with the national team this season, including two in Portugal's 3-0 win at Latvia in a World Cup qualifier last week, the team's last match before the Confederations Cup.
Two weeks ago, he had also scored twice in the Champions League final to lead Madrid to its second consecutive title in the European club competition.
Mexico's Carlos Vela, left, celebrates with teammate Mexico's Hirving Lozano after scoring his team's first goal against the USA during their World Cup soccer qualifying match at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Sunday, June 11, 2017.
Portugal and Mexico comprise the rest of Group A with Russian Federation and New Zealand, while Germany, Chile, Australia and Cameroon make up Group B.
But that day will not come this summer - not with Ronaldo still in excellent nick and likely to win a Lionel Messi-equalling fifth Ballon d'Or in January, and fourth in five seasons. "I have the same confidence today", Portugal coach Fernando Santos said earlier this week.
On Wednesday evening, Team Portugal arrived in Kazan to participate in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Mexico, who drew 1-1 at home to the United States in World Cup qualifying last weekend, will look to Real Sociedad's Carlos Vela and Bayer Leverkusen striker Javier Hernandez for inspiration. Portugal will play Mexico in a Confederations Cup, Group A soccer match scheduled for Sunday, June 1.
Mexico's squad has three players who have close connections to Portugal. Therefore, the only gaps in his CV will have to be filled in Russian Federation, a country he has already experienced success in following United's Champions League win against Chelsea in Moscow in 2008.
Portugal doesn't have any player on its squad playing for Mexican clubs.
"I wanted to give some players a chance to prove to me what they can do".
