A few recent happenings point toward the possible release of Doomfist as a playable hero in Overwatch soon: Doomfist's gauntlet was stolen from the map Numbani in February, and Blizzard named the current public test region "Summer Games/Doomfist", suggesting Doomfist would be coming to the game in August. In a previous update for the game, various parts of the Numbani map have been damaged, alluding to Reaper reclaiming Doomfist's gauntlet. Developer Blizzard has updated the game's official website with new story details for Doomfist - an enigmatic character many believe will appear in the game. In a post released today, players learned that Akande Ogundimu (Doomfist) was actually broken out of a hidden prison by the shadowy organization Talon. His gauntlet was put on display at the Overwatch museum in Numbani.
The Overwatch blog has a new "report", a fictionalized news item, that once again raises the specter of Doomfist.
Further to that, with the handful of characters added to the game since launch, it looks like Blizzard are starting to indulge their darker side, hinting that there could be more villains added to the roster in future. Initially, security reported that there were not any passengers on board according to radar scans.
The assault was led by Reaper who killed dozens of Helix security officers that were defending the inmates.
After escaping from the facility, the report says Ogundimu resurfaced in Numbani, where he easily destroyed the OR15 defense robots at the Adawe International Terminal and reclaimed the Doomfist. Also, Terry Crews really wants to voice the character. For some reason, the USA link to the blog post - which is the one given out by the official Overwatch Twitter - isn't working, though the United Kingdom one is. The hero that's been teased since the first cinematic of Overwatch has eluded players ever since, and this reveal was assuredly some sort of drill or test, right? Since Overwatch is currently in Patch 1.12, with a version of patch 1.13 in the PTR right now, this clearly signaled the imminent arrival of Doomfist.
