During an early-February phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he seemed to back off the provocation and assured Xi that the one-China policy was still the U.S.'s policy.
"While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi [and] China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out".
Xi stressed that since his meeting with President Trump, important results have been achieved in China-US relations, reported Chinese state media outlet CCTV. The ministry called on USA officials to cancel the deal, saying it would be harmful to China's sovereignty.
Trump, Putin and Xi will attend the Group of 20 summit in Germany later this week.
Many took these moves as evidence of the United States pursuing a harder line on the Asian superpower, likely caused by mounting frustration over a perceived lack of action by Beijing to contain North Korea. The White House said the two leaders shared a commitment to dealing with North Korea. An upset Mr Abe said that "North Korea's most recent missile launch is absolutely intolerable".
China's foreign ministry accused the U.S. of violating Chinese sovereignty and disrupting "peace, security and order of the relevant waters" after the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Stethem sailed Sunday within 12 nautical miles (22 kilometers) of tiny Triton island, which is claimed by China, Taiwan and Vietnam.

That's especially true after Trump broke with decades of protocol against interactions with Taiwanese leaders in December and accepted a phone call with the island's president. "Unlike the father, the son often times has engaged in fairly significant diplomatic insults of Beijing in a way we haven't seen before and in a way that surprised China". The piece, titled "It's unwise for Washington to play the Taiwan card", warned against any efforts to embrace a congressionally supported push to allow U.S. Navy visits at the island's ports.
President Donald Trump needs to fire some people in the White House over the steady stream of leaks that are coming out, even if he doesn't fire the right person, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton said Thursday. The White House made no mention of the subject.
Trump, who held talks with Abe earlier this year at the president's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, has forged a united front with the Japanese leader on the need to exert pressure on North Korea to curb its nuclear and missile development.
