"There's a really fantastic picture from the comics where Spider-Man is sitting on a lamppost staring at Hulk, and I think that could be a really... there's so many jokes you can make about the big green guy, so I think that would be a lot of fun". We first saw Tom Holland as the webbed crusader Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War" (2016).
In Holland's case, he's bigger than James Bond and nearly all other Spider-men except Tobey Maguire's original film.
Despicable Me's second weekend domestic finish is an estimated $34 million. Peter go after the Vulture (played by Michael Keaton), and stars Zendaya as Michelle, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan (Peter's crush), Tony Revolori as Flash, and Jacob Batalon as Peter's best friend, Ned. Sony made the unorthodox decision to team with Kevin Feige's Marvel Studios after the two Amazing Spider-Man pics lagged well behind the original Spider-Man film trilogy.
"Homecoming" received an "A" CinemaScore from audiences and a 93% score from critics on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
In third is Edgar Wright's latest film, Baby Driver, which sees only a 38 percent drop for estimated earning of $12.7 million.
"Homecoming" is the only major release this weekend, so the rest of the top five are made up to familiar faces.
At the specialty box office, Michael Showalter's The Big Sick continued to impress, moving into the top 10 as it expanded into 326 theaters. As Variety reports, the movie made $25.3 million through Thursday at its global box office. This weekend it's expected to make $2.1 million from 941 locations.
"Wonder Woman" was fourth with $10.1 million, bringing its six-week domestic total to more than $368 million. Meanwhile, A24's "A Ghost Story" starring Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck should spook $105,000 from four locations during its opening frame.
For now, we can just forget about the sequels, because we can enjoy Spider-Man: Homecoming currently out in theaters! That leaves the year overall about dead even with 2016 after movies like "Beauty and the Beast", "Logan", "Get Out" and "The Fate of the Furious" laid a strong foundation for the summer during the early part of the calendar year.
