"With strikes looming at Newark, LaGuardia, JFK and Philadelphia International airports, American Airlines and 32BJ SEIU have entered into last minute discussions", Rob Hill, vice president of 32BJ Service Employees International Union, said in a statement.

There were no major disruptions at Denver International Airport on Wednesday as a result of the action, part of national effort to raise the pay of contract airport workers.

Workers at Newark Liberty International Airport went on strike Tuesday night and workers at other New York-area airports planned to walk off the job Wednesday morning. Many PHL workers including maintenance staff, janitors, and employees who work directly for airlines belong to labor unions.

The staff walked out at 9pm on Tuesday and will be holding rallies through Wednesday and Thursday over what they claim are unfair labor practices

The strike will continue through Wednesday and possibly Thursday and is due to workers' long standing attempts to unionize being blocked by PrimeFlight.

Hundreds of wheelchair porters, baggage handlers, customer service agents, cabin and terminal cleaners walked out late Tuesday citing unjust labour practices by employer PrimeFlight Inc. The strike would continue for at least three days.

It wasn't clear how the strike would affect air travel at the airports.
