The American had taken almost 10 hours, 14 sets and four tie-breaks to get to the quarters; it had detained Murray eight hours 20 minutes for the loss of a single set - but the numbers and running score disguised a disturbing truth. Querrey dished out an impressive performance to beat Murray 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Andy stayed in touch in the first 3 sets, even without his best tennis, but he had nothing left in the tank in the remaining sets, Querrey took control and brought the match home for his first Grand Slam semi-final.
"The whole tournament, I've been a little bit sore", said Murray.
"And Cilic, yes he will push him more, but I just feel Andy's mentality, being on Centre Court, and with his experience - Andy never lets any opportunities go".
Andy Murray will be looking to secure his place in the Wimbledon 2017 semi-final when he takes on Sam Querry this Wednesday 12th July. "I'm going to enjoy this one a little longer, have an easy day tomorrow and do the best I can to get ready for the semis".
Murray can remain No. 1 in the world rankings if Novak Djokovic does not capture his fourth Wimbledon trophy on Sunday.
He added that he was not "a million miles away from winning the match".
Murray looked on course for an eighth win in nine matches against Querrey when he led by a set and a break, but less than two hours later he was out, after the American fired down his 27th ace.
The hip problem is the latest physical issue in a hard season for Murray, who has also been afflicted by shingles, an elbow injury and two bouts of flu. "Kept swinging away and then really found a groove in the fourth and fifth set", he said.
"That turned out to be quite an important part of the match".
Murray admitted his serve has not been as forceful as previous year, when he won his second title at the All England Club. Obviously I managed to get through a bunch of matches and did okay.
He said: "The movement is a hindrance physically but I think it's also a distraction mentally. He's a great grass-court player but I've had good success against him in the past and hopefully I'll take that into the match". Obviously I want to try to get to the final. This is the 42nd Grand Slam event for Sam and he is the player with the most tournaments played before reaching the last 4 for the first time.
