In 2016, forest fires in Fort McMurray in neighboring Alberta province displaced 88,000 people and burned 590,000 hectares.
The family was temporarily stranded at their resort deep in BC's interior after the forest fires raging in the province made it too risky to leave via the only highway in or out of the area. She initially went to 100 Mile House to stay with her parents, but had to leave Sunday when that town was evacuated, too.
