Yankees trade LHP Tyler Webb to Brewers for Garrett Cooper

NY sent left-handed pitcher Tyler Webb to the Milwaukee Brewers, and got back first baseman Garrett Cooper in return. The Brewers contributed to that damage, scoring two of the six runs he allowed and coming back against him to tie and eventually beat NY last Friday. In 21 games in triple-A during the 2017 season, Webb was 3-1 with a 3.24 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched.

Webb, who faced the Brewers twice last week, has yet to record a decision with a 4.50 ERA in seven appearances this season with the Yankees.

Garrett Cooper wasn't one of the marquee first basemen on the market, but he's now one of the Yankees' possible upgrades at an unproductive position. While Cooper has spent time in both the outfield and first base in the minors, he projects as a full-time first baseman in the majors, thanks to his size (6-foot-6, 230 pounds) and his power profile, but he was blocked by Eric Thames and Jesus Aguilar in Milwaukee.

The righty hitter was a sixth-round pick out of Auburn in 2013.

In return, Cooper provides the Yankees get another option at first base, which has been a problem spot this year. Webb rose quickly through the system and was selected in the 2016 Rule 5 Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, before ultimately being returned to the Yankees.

On June 22, Webb was called up to the big leagues after playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Recently named a Triple-A All-Star, he put up an eye-popping.366/.428/.652 slash line with 17 home runs and 82 RBI in the thin air at Colorado Springs.
