The Prime Minister's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, seems to have falsified documents in an effort to hide her possession of some overseas properties.
The Calibri Wikipedia page was also bombarded by attempted edits to include the font's significant role in exposing foul play at the hands of the Prime Minister and his family. Sharif is now in his third term as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Sources said the meeting was called to device a strategy in response to the opposition's calls for the premier's resignation following the submission of the Panama case JIT report. "We do not know the exact date for this public release date [but] it is [still] extremely unlikely that somebody would copy fonts from a beta environment to use in official documents", Lucas de Groot told the paper last week.
The plush apartments are at the heart of the case against the Sharif family, with authorities and the opposition questioning the legitimacy of funds used to buy them via offshore companies.
He said a narrative was being tried to be built since the report was submitted to the court. Since Calibri wasn't widely available back in 2006, the investigators find it easy to believe that the documents were forged.
The documents are dated February 6, 2006, but it is important to note that the Calibri font wasn't commercially available until much later.
In their report, which has been leaked to media, the team alleges Sharif's family accumulated wealth far above its earnings, and says his children, including heir-apparent Maryam Sharif, signed falsified documents created to mask the truth.
The opposition parties have been calling for the 67-year-old's resignation after his name surfaced in the 2015 Panama Papers leak that had financial details of more than 2 lakh offshore entities.
The Sharif family has consistently denied the allegations against it and rejected the JIT report, with allies denouncing it as "trash". The leak had also shed light on the monetary dealings of Sharif's children as well.
Despite the pressure, the PM chaired a parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday, and reiterated his decision not to resign.
If convicted, Sharif may lose his prime ministership and also face jail time, along with daughter Maryam. "One group wants the PM to resign while the other wants confrontation", he said, adding there was a lot of evidence in the JIT report to declare Nawaz Sharif ineligible for the public office.
