The announcement of the leading man was done some time back by Netflix on Twitter.
The series which is based on novelist Vikram Chandra's Sacred Games that dwells on small-time hustling to armed gang wars, of good men going to seed and the upward mobility of baddies was announced over a year ago but there is still no clarity on when the series would go live on the platform.
While the streaming giant has produced a number of hit global shows (it got 91 Emmy nominations this year), Sacred Games, an adaptation of Vikram Chandra's 20006 crime novel of the same name, will be their first original series in India. "Sacred Games reinforces our commitment to bring the authenticity of local stories to Netflix members across 190 countries worldwide".
"Sacred Games" delves into Mumbai's intricate web of organised crime, corruption, politics and espionage that lie beneath India's economic renaissance. It interweaves the lives of the privileged, the famous, the wretched and the bloodthirsty. Netflix will be partnering with Phantom Films for the same. The teaser has left movie buffs anticipation and now, people are eagerly waiting for the film.

Netflix also acquired the streaming rights to Aamir Khan's "Dangal" for reportedly Rs 20 crore. It took over two years before the script finally got to the actor.
In India, Netflix competes with local OTT players like Amazon Prime, Hotstar, dittoTV, Sony Liv, Voot and Eros Now.
