India price and availability: Reliance Jio will most likely launch its long-rumoured Rs 500 feature phone at its annual general meeting (AGM) on July 21. Rumors were rampant about a basic, 500 rupee Reliance Jio 4G phone. The video and an accompanying report reveal specifications, features, and software details of the upcoming Lyf/ Jio 4G VoLTE feature phone.
According to a report by TechPP, the Reliance Jio 4G feature phone will be sold under the Lyf brand, the sister-brand of Jio, owned by Reliance Retail. Well, you all would know by now that a Jio feature phone exists, but how does it look and what are its specifications? It has a slightly bigger battery and RAM, larger microSD capacity, bigger internal storage, and a bigger primary camera in comparison to the Lyf Water 1.
Coming to the connectivity features, the phone supports Cat 4 LTE Band 3,5,40 with Dual SIM (mini SIM + nano SIM) support. This feature phone also supports Bluetooth 4.1, video calling feature and Global Positioning System. In the camera front, the Front Camera is of VGA quality while the Rear Camera has a 2MP shooter which is placed at the back end of the phone. The phone is also said to come with Bluetooth 4.1, VoLTE, VoWiFi and Video Calling support out-of-the-box. If Reliance releases this phone soon, then it will help lots of people using single SIM smartphones. Apart from these, users can also use Jio suite of apps like Jio TV and Jio Cinema and apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc on this phone.
Based on the rumour mills, the 4G feature phone will be running on KAI OS which apparently is a forked version of FireOS.
The Jio feature smartphone is relied upon to be founded on Firefox KAI OS and the commercial center called KaiOS Plus.
The regulator has reportedly asked all the telecom operators to come up with a detailed presentation to support their arguments on this topic.
We are not sure if these subsidized phones will be launched as a part of an offer from Reliance Jio or will be stand alone devices.
The phone will totally disrupt the Indian mobile market since phones with similar features are available only above the price range of Rs. 3000. But well before that happens, a couple of reports doing the rounds of the Internet claim to have received a first-hand view of the feature phone in question.
