Areas that get the full shadow of the moon will be able to witness a total solar eclipse. The moon will cover part of the sun, which will resemble a much brighter crescent moon.
Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, Townsend, TN is hosting a Solar Eclipse Tour to Cades Cove. In the spirit of southern hospitality, Hiiawassee, GA is hosting a Total Solar Eclipse Tailgating Party featuring a presentation by the Atlanta Astronomy Club, live music, and vendors for a fun, family event.
The Kentucky State Parks also want guests to be safe during the eclipse. On Monday, August 21, 2017, a solar eclipse can be seen across all of North America.
The total solar eclipse, considered a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many in this area, takes place in just one month on August 21. Included will be important safety information and viewing glasses, a menu of related Chabad programs, and suggested readings and Torah study. You will be able to see the spectacular colors and light of the sun's atmosphere, a sight revealed to us only during a total solar eclipse.
The partial eclipse of the moon occurs when part of the sunlight which fall on the moon's surface are blocked by Earth.
Here in our region, I'm sure the Goldendale Observatory will be abuzz with activity as scientists and visitors stream in to get a peak at the historic event. The almost four-hour program will include unprecedented images of the August 21 eclipse from numerous spacecraft - including the International Space Station high-altitude aircraft and balloons, and ground observations. Remove them only after the moon blocks the sun as it turns dark.
Viewing starts at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 2 pm.

"With such large attendance numbers predicted by NASA, we're anticipating a surge of traffic as people who have driven in for the day head home starting around 3 p.m".
Dcruz said, "This will be a good opportunity for people to see a solar eclipse. We usually don't see that, so that will be something unique". The state is one of the last bastions of dark skies in the country and offers both aspiring and professional astronomers some of the best terrain to view the night sky all summer long.
"People actually used a solar eclipse to prove one of Einstein's theories, the curving of spacetime", Fisher said.
