What seems to be yet another political coup after the developments in Bihar and Gujarat, three MLCs- two from the Samajwadi Party (SP) and one from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)- resigned from council membership leading to speculation that all of them would be joining the BJP and would subsequently be compensated for the same later on.The genesis of the speculation is said to be the timing of the three MLCs.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MLC Yashwant Sinha has also resigned.
He also indicated that the resignations of these three SP members had been taken to ensure a smooth entry of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his two deputies Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma into the assembly before the deadline of six months. Yeshwant Singh, when contacted, said, "Maine apni seat Yogi ji (Adityanath) ke liye samarpit kar di hai".
Yashwant Singh is considered to be close to Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias "Raja Bhaiyya". Singh called the Akhilesh's statement anti-national and pro-China. He has said that he had been feeling "suffocated" since the last one year.
Nawab expressed his willingness to join the BJP. If get an invite from the BJP, I will definitely consider it. Akhilesh Yadav described the resignations of his party leaders as BJP's political corruption and said that it is happening all across the country.
"The BJP", he added, "must clarify why it was not willing to go for a direct election and get its leaders elected through the Vidhan Sabha route?"
"BJP people can't muster courage to go to the people. Are they afraid of going to the people?" "But if someone wants to leave, they can leave", Yadav said.
Mr. Yadav resorted to sarcasm to taunt Mr. Nawab, saying not many days had passed since the Shia leader treated him with sewai on Eid.
BSP chief Mayawati also cried foul and charged the BJP with misusing power and state machinery to target Opposition parties and their legislators. "The BJP is becoming unsafe for democracy".
After Goa and Manipur, and most recently in Bihar and Gujarat, the BJP was now trying the same manipulative tactics in Uttar Pradesh through misuse of State agencies like the CBI and the Income Tax department to run a campaign to paint its opponents as corrupt, she alleged. With these resignations, SP's strength in the Council will now be reduced to 63.
