The couple met five years ago while studying at the same university.
The Princess graduated from university with a master's degree in art museum and gallery studies and now works as a researcher at a museum at the University of Tokyo.
The two met during their freshman year and became close in 2012 when they took part in an orientation session for study overseas programs. Komuro shared how they're distance helped them and became an opportunity to deepen their relationship.
Kei Komuro actually proposed to the Princess in 2013 and now she has spoken about their love for the first time. The princess immediately accepted the marriage proposal.
Tatsuya Sasaki, 63, who had his house washed away following heavy rain that hit Iwaizumi in northeastern Japan's Iwate Prefecture in late August 2016, said he remembers the princess being a "friendly" person who played with children when she visited the disaster site last October. However, at the request of her parents Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, who supported Princess Mako's relationship with Komuro, the bodyguards tried to keep a distance from the couple by blending into the crowd.

The 25-year-old is expected to announce her engagement to former university classmate Kei Komuro, who works at a law firm. He is the eldest son of Toshikatsu Komuro, a former employee of the Yokohama city government, who died in 2002, and his wife Kayo, 51.
According to Yamamoto, the Emperor and Empress appeared to be feeling deeply impressed.

Mako has since introduced him to her parents, Prince Akishino, second in line to the Chrysanthemum throne, and Princess Kiko, as someone she wished to 'share her future with'.

During the program, Komuro went to the University of California in Los Angeles, while Princess Mako studied at the University of Edinburgh.
