AAA says there was a drop in regional gas supplies last week, reflecting a tighter supply due to those refineries remaining offline after Hurricane Harvey.
The latest survey from GasBuddy shows average retail gasoline prices in Vermont rose 1.7 cents per gallon in last week, averaging $2.73 on Monday.
Both GasBuddy and AAA Auto Club Group survey thousands of USA gas stations across the country on gas prices.
The national average increased by 1.8 cents to $2.65 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline was $2.67 a gallon, up five cents from seven days earlier, while Georgia's average of $2.75 was six cents higher during the same period, according to the auto club.
On the flip side, as the southeastern US gets hit by Irma, gas prices are likely to continue climbing throughout the region.
States with the lowest average gasoline prices today: SC ($2.37), Louisiana ($2.38), Arkansas ($2.40), Missouri ($2.41), MS ($2.45), Arizona ($2.45), Kansas ($2.46), Alabama ($2.50), South Dakota ($2.50) and Minnesota ($2.50). Since last month, the Albany average has risen 64.6 cents, and motorists were paying 75.5 cents more per gallon than past year. GasBuddy has expanded its emergency gas availability tracker to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
"The national average gasoline price appears to have peaked last week Thursday at $2.67 per gallon and is beginning to slowly decline for the time being", DeHaan said.
DeHaan said reduced demand should help alleviate pain at the pump. The wholesale price of gas is falling, the supply of gas remains high and Gulf Coast refineries shut down prior to Harvey are coming back on line.
