He called Republican national security officials who had served in the George W Bush administration "idiots", including former secretaries of state Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell, and former Vice President Dick Cheney.
Mr Bannon has returned to his previous role as chairman of Breitbart News, a right-wing outlet.
[It's] Mitch McConnell, and to a degree, Paul Ryan. One of those who failed to fully back Trump was Chris Christie, and it cost him a cabinet position, Bannon said. "And to be brutally frank, you know, the campaign, look, I'd never been on a campaign in my entire life, right?" "Our whole campaign was a little bit [like] the island of misfit toys".
"I think the President's been very clear about his position on that front", Sanders said, adding that Trump is "very pleased with the new" Federal Bureau of Investigation director, Christopher Wray, whom the Senate confirmed last month. He later added: "I think their choice is gonna be you're not gonna be able to totally repeal it". "I need to embrace the establishment'". That led to the moment when Bannon's angry tick became pronounced as Rose asked about White House leaks - including by Bannon - and his reported feuds.
Russia: 'There's nothing to the Russia investigation. "It's a waste of time", Bannon said. The former Trump aide asserted that the federal probe into Russian Federation would not yield anything substantial.
"Hillary Clinton's not very bright", Bannon said. Charlie, that's beneath you. He says, I can't even hire any smart people because everybody's all over them for reporting requirements and the pay, etc. He said: "No, I do not".
"Well, that's not the question", Rose said. Making a rather dramatic statement, Bannon claimed that the Republicans are trying to get the 2016 election nullified. That's what the investigation is about.
CHARLIE ROSE: Give me a story that illustrates that. No, it's what he says that the mainstream media, the pearl-clutching mainstream media. Some believe they are illegal immigrants who are taking American jobs, while others say they contribute to the country and deserve compassion. They can call me racist. And I don't believe he thinks that they're looking out what's in his best interest, okay?
When Rose pointed out Bannon's seeming hostility toward China, the former chief strategist responded that "I want China to stop appropriating our technology".
His exit meant one of the White House's most controversial staffers, the man generally perceived as the driving force behind Trump's "nationalist" ideology, would no longer be at the center of the Trump universe.
In a portion of the interview released earlier in the weekend Bannon said that he believes Trump's economic adviser Gary Cohn should resign because of his reservations about Trump's response to the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va.
