Sergio Agüero, the Manchester City striker, has been injured in a auto accident in Amsterdam, the club has confirmed.
The 29-year-old had gone to Holland for a concert and reportedly was involved in a vehicle crash on the way to the airport.
Early inidications suggest the star has suffered a fractured rib.
"Sergio Aguero will be assessed by club doctors on Friday after being involved in a road accident on Thursday", read the statement.
Increasing the wait: Aguero is close to breaking City's all-time goalscoring record but will now have to wait at least a couple of months after being involved in an accident.
He is also likely to miss Argentina's crucial final two World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador.
Asked whether he had a problem with Aguero attending a concert ahead of the top-of-the-table game at Chelsea, he replied bluntly: "No. Day off. Tomorrow I think their support will be very important".
"The first impression is that he has broken rib but the number of days he will be out, I don't know right now", he added. And when he skidded, we hit him with the pole. "He will come back and recover as soon as possible", Pep said. "I was a player and I understand that sometimes this can happen but once is OK". "I'll be discharged in a little while".
