Wales are now in second place in Group D, four points behind leaders Serbia and one point above the Republic.

However, that being said, Bale has mustered up two goals and one assist in the five La Liga games he has played in for Real Madrid this season.

Bale, 28, missed Real Madrid's match against Espanyol on Sunday, October 1 with a calf complaint and is unavailable for The Dragons' crunch ties with Georgia and the Republic of Ireland.

However, the former world's most expensive player faces a race to be fit in time for that return fixture and could even be a doubt for any World Cup qualifying playoff Wales may find themselves in.

"It is our worst nightmare to be without him, but we can't do anything about it", said the 23-year-old Derby County player.

His absence could mean a first global start for Woodburn, whose goal off the bench against Austria in September catapulted him onto the big stage.

The Spanish publication have made claims of a new calf injury which was discovered after a soft training session with the Wales camp on Monday.

Wales need to top the group to secure an automatic place in Russian Federation but will go through to the playoffs if they finish second.

The 17-year-old made a dramatic introduction last month when he scored the victor within five minutes of coming on as a second-half substitute against Austria.

Lawrence started the last two World Cup qualifiers alongside Bale, last month's victories against Austria and Moldova.

In order to secure a play-off place, Wales would realistically need at least four points from the final two group games.
