And it's influence in the genre is second only to the earlier "Star Wars" in 1977. First of all, (for Blade Runner) we shot 50 nights in the rain on the back lot of Warner Brothers. But it's a line that resonates beyond the robotic reality of "Blade Runner". Turns out that it's the one that made the most sense - to tell a great story helmed by a masterful storyteller.
"It was also a once-in-a-lifetime experience to help create the limited edition Director's Cut blend, which perfectly captures the complex and mysterious world of Blade Runner 2049". The groundbreaking film was so seminal that many fans (present company included) raised an eyebrow when news broke that over three decades later, a sequel was in the works.
The good news is that even a relatively safe Blade Runner sequel is still many degrees more interesting than your average sci-fi blockbuster. Even the two writers said the other had the credit for the "correct" answer.
"I was truly inspired by Villeneuve's artistic vision for Blade Runner 2049 and how it could come to life in this new blend".
The original Blade Runner was set in the then distant year of 2019, a future where there are off-world colonies, and work is carried out by synthetic humans called replicants. When K discovers a box buried by a replicant - its contents suggest something impossible - the wall between man and machine crumbles a little.
"I feel like that's where this is headed, " Gosling said as he poured himself a drink. I'll save my analysis of that for a spoiler-y post next week, but it's safe to say that 2049 is simultaneously a compelling sequel to the original Blade Runner, a worthwhile standalone sci-fi/mystery blockbuster, and a reintroduction to the dystopian Blade Runner universe that whets the appetite for more.
The original Blade Runner famously left fans with a dangling question: Is Rick Deckard a replicant? There really is no way to describe how incredible the movie looks without seeing for yourself, but, if Deakins doesn't win an Academy Award this year, after 13 previous nominations, there is something clearly wrong with the Academy.
Director Denis Villeneuve initially meant to work again with longtime composer Johan Johansson for this film, but ultimately switched to Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch for the score. Ford plays the titular "blade runner", an ex-cop assigned to assassinate androids known as "replicants".
