The fires are believed to have begun late Sunday night near Highway 128 in Napa County and progressed toward Santa Rosa city limits.

The National Weather Service reported strong winds in the San Francisco Bay area, giving the inferno more life as it tears through businesses and homes.
The California Highway Patrol Santa Rosa Division said in a tweet early Monday that the community of Kenwood, in unincorporated Sonoma County, also was evacuated. The Tubbs Fire triggered the evacuation of Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa. Another hospital in the area, Sutter Hospital, was also placed under evacuation orders.
Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jonathan Cox, who reported some injuries, said "this fire is explosive".
In recent memory, there hasn't been anything like the wildfires now burning in these relatively densely populated areas of the North Bay, and several cities and towns are likely to be assessing damages for weeks to come, and rebuilding for years to come, including Santa Rosa and Glen Ellen.
Elderly people, children and those with respiratory illnesses are particularly susceptible to the smoky conditions and should take extra precautions, air district officials said.
In the first hours of the Atlas Peak fire, fire and sheriff's units went house to house just north of Silverado Resort urging residents to leave. The Atlas Fire is at 5,000 acres and the Patrick fire is at 100 acres.
Smoke from the multiple fires may create a health hazard, Napa County warned.
