On May 23, 2008, Rajesh Talwar was arrested and was kept in Dasna jail; on July 11, 2008, he was let off. Nupur surrendered in Ghaziabad court on April 30, 2012. In an immediate reaction, Aarushi's grandfather BG Chitnis told Times Now that he always believed that Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar were innocent.
# I was in pain to see my daughter and son-in-law for the crime that they have not committed: Nupur Talwar's father.
# CBI lawyer Anurag Khanna sayd the probe agency will go to the Supreme Court only after consulting with its top officials. "We have suffered a lot for nearly ten years", she said while addressing the media. A high court bench comprising Justice B.K. Narayana and Justice A.K. Mishra in September reserved its verdict in the appeal filed by Aarushi's parents, who were sentenced to life in jail by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Ghaziabad.
He said, "In a case of circumstantial evidence motive does not have extreme significance".
The CBI team under Kumar had concluded that Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj were murdered by Krishna Thadarai - the compounder at Rajesh Talwar's clinic, his friend Rajkumar and Vijay Mandal, a driver of the Talwars' neighbour. "Until there is conclusive evidence, which was not found in this case, the conviction can not be upheld". The CBI did not immediately say if it would appeal against the high court judgement.
The Allahabad High Court is likely to pronounce the verdict at around 2 pm.
The Talwars were convicted by a lower court in 2013 and sentenced to life in prison.
Aarushi was found murdered at her residence on May 16, 2008, which led to the suspicion that domestic help Hemraj had killed her. The door of the terrace was found locked from inside.
India has been riveted by the case since the first details of the double murder in the affluent New Delhi suburb of Noida emerged.
This allegation by the police made the Talwars and their family members angry, and they accused the police of putting false charges just because they were not able to solve the murder case.
