Heather Unruh came forward with details of a sexual assault allegation against Kevin Spacey that she's been hinting at for months on Twitter.
Her son is represented by Mitchell Garabedian, an attorney best known for representing clergy sex abuse victims.
Unruh, former news anchor for ABC affiliate WCVB, said Spacey provided her 18-year-old son with numerous drinks before reaching down his trousers and grabbing his genitals.
Unruh said her son chose not to report the alleged incident to police at the time out of fear and embarrassment.
"The sexual assaults, the sexual harassment, the sexual perversion must be stopped, and one way to stop it is for courageous victims and their families to speak out so that children are safe, other victims are empowered and the victims themselves are emboldened", Garabedian said. "To Kevin Spacey, I want to say this - shame on you for what you did to my son and shame on you for using your apology to Anthony Rapp to come out as a gay man". But she says he filed a report with police last week and they're investigating. "That was an appalling attempt to deflect attention away from what you really are: a sexual predator".
His claims were corroborated by other crew members of "House of Cards", including an assistant camera man and a female production assistant, who claimed to have seen Spacey inappropriately touch male crew members and make lewd comments. Unruh said she chose to speak out after the Harvey Weinstein scandal came to light, with multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment and assault surfacing in bombshell reports by The New York Times and The New Yorker. One man, who remained anonymous, even claimed Spacey tried to rape him as a teen. "Time the dominoes fell", she wrote.
Netflix has since cut ties with Spacey amid the mounting sexual abuse allegations.
Lesbian writer Jenny Hagel said on Late Night With Seth Meyers 'I have a lot of problems with Kevin Spacey's statement. A publicist said last week that Spacey is "taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment".
